Carlinville school board ready for 2024-25 academic year

The Carlinville Community Unit School District No. 1 kicked off the 2024-25 school year with an Aug. 12 Board of Education meeting and Aug. 13 teacher breakfast prior to welcoming students back for the first official day of classes Aug. 14.

During the meeting, the board handled its final personnel hirings of the summer, approved a few other business items and reviewed notable dates of the academic calendar.

Personnel

After accepting the resignations of Randy Gilmore as full time bus driver to part-time substitute driver and Dawn Peterson as Teacher, the board made the following hirings to its personnel:

Kyle Stoneking as part time cafeteria worker;

Rebecca Gray as Bus Route Driver & Monitor;

Sean O’Brien and Max Rogers as football assistant coaches;

Jennifer Strubbe as a Carlinville High School Assistant Cross Country Coach;

Shay Kellerman as a Carlinville Middle School Assistant Cross Country Coach;

BJ Vinyard as a CMS Volunteer Assistant Cross Country Coach;

Tyler Quarton as a CMS Assistant Baseball Coach;

Julie Gibson as a CMS Assistant Softball Coach;

Julie Behme as a CHS Assistant Golf Coach;

Jared Millburg as a CMS Golf Coach;

Julie Kinser as a CHS Assistant Volleyball Coach;

Kolton Page as a Volunteer CHS Assistant Soccer Coach.

Other business items

The board approved its tentative FY25 budget and adopt the budget resolution setting the FY25 budget hearing for Sept. 23 at 6:45 pm.

The board voted to purchase electricity through Constellation.

The board approved a motion to accept Blue Cross Blue Shield for medical, dental and vision insurance provided by Assured Partners.

The board agreed to start working with GTS on upgrading mobile communications across the district.

The board approved the calendar change to be in compliance with ISBE.

The board passed the first reading of Press 115 & Press 116 Board Policies.

Notable calendar dates

No student or staff attendance Mon., Sept. 2, Mon., Oct. 14, Tues., Nov. 5, Mon., Nov. 11, Thurs., Nov. 28, Fri., Nov. 29, Mon., Dec. 23 to Fri., Jan. 3, Mon., Jan. 20, Mon., Feb. 10, Mon., Mar. 3, Thurs., Apr. 17 to Mon., Apr. 21.

School improvement 11:35 a.m. dismissal dates are Fri., Sept. 20, Thurs., Oct. 10, Wed., Nov. 27, Fri., Feb. 28, Wed., Mar. 26, and Wed., Apr. 16.

Students will be dismissed at 2 p.m. on Wed., Nov. 6, Thurs., Nov. 7 and Thurs., Mar. 6.

Parent-teacher conferences are from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 6 for grades K-8, Nov. 7 for grades K-12 and Mar. 6 for grades 9-12.

Students return for the spring semester on Jan. 7.

May 20, 21, 22, 23 and 27 will be used as emergency days.

Classes will not be in session Jan. 6 and May 28 due to teacher institutes.

The last day of student attendance with all emergency days used will be May 27.

The next regular Carlinville BOE meeting is Mon., Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. in the CHS Media Center.
