A piece of Carlinville history will soon be showcased to a regional audience on Great Day St. Louis this month.
The television segment will feature Heinz Furniture, a business that traces its roots back to 1854 and has operated from the same location on Carlinville’s historic square for more than 170 years.
The segment will also include discussion of the upcoming 62626 Jubilee event in Carlinville on June 26. The business is a lead sponsor of the event which organizers say is designed to highlight and promote the community. The sponsorship represents the business’s long-standing ties and commitment to Carlinville.
The business was founded by German immigrant Peter Heinz, who arrived in the United States by boat in early 1852. He landed in New Orleans, made his way to Alton, and walked to Chesterfield to meet his sister before eventually settling in Carlinville and establishing the family business. Peter Heinz built the building back in 1854. Three generations later, the store was owned by Peter’s great-grandson, Greg Heinz. Greg sold the business about ten years ago to his daughter Danlee and son-in-law Greg Whitler.
