Mayor Downey said he received an invitation from Tom Emery to attend his talk on February 26 at 5:30 p.m. Tom will be speaking at the Carlinville Library about the history of Carlinville grocery stores. Pete Oswald will also give a brief presentation on the new “Our Market” that is coming to the Plaza.

The Chief of Police wanted to update everyone on the new permits for golf carts and ATVs. Originally every year the permits were always the same color which made it more difficult to see if the person had paid their registration. Most of the time, the police officer had to physically check the tag to make sure it was valid. This year, the City will start using a different color sticker every year. This will make it so much easier to see who has paid their registration fee. The way to make it fair for 2026, they will pro rate the cost of the renewals all the way through the year. So as people come in to renew this year, the price will be pro rated till December 31st, just to get everyone caught up on the new sticker system. Then in 2027 no matter when one purchases a sticker, the stickers will all be the same.
