Macoupin County Board holds Meeting July 14

Matters of Recognition
The Board recognized Simon Kilduff, son of Ryan Kilduff, a County Board member from Staunton. Simon just completed his project and received the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest achievement in the Boy Scouts. His project included building a structure at the cemetery off of Route 4 that shows where the different Veterans are buried. Simon just graduated from Staunton High School and will be attending Lewis and Clark to study Criminal Justice. His future plans are to transfer to Carbondale and study Law. Larry Schmidt presented Simon with a certificate recognizing his achievements.
Petitions
The following road work was approved, and the County will be responsible for 50% of the cost. New culverts need to be installed since most have rusted out at the bottoms. Gillespie project #22 would replace a culvert over Adams Branch Creek at a cost of $15,500. Hilyard project #66 would be replacing a culvert over a feeder of May Branch Creek for $9,000. Polk project #41, replace a culvert over a feeder to Macoupin Creek for $10,000. Scottville project #67, replace a culvert over a branch of Hicks Creek for $22,500.
Resolutions
The Board approved the following resolutions that include the joint funding agreement for the State’s participation in the preliminary engineering on the following projects. The first project is for the Staunton-Bunker Hill road. The County is proposing milling and resurfacing of the roadway of the entire 5.3-mile length of the project. Macoupin County Board will appropriate as much as may be needed beyond the $200,000 in Local Funding Funds (LPF) to complete the proposed improvement. The other project will be the removal and replacement of a structure, and the reconstruction of 4.5 miles of Brighton-Bunker Hill Road, including culvert removal and replacement, drainage improvements, and other incidental items. The County will appropriate the amount needed, in addition to the $250,000 in LPF funds, to complete the proposed improvement.
