Area Fireworks

Fireworks and many other festivities have been planned by Macoupin County communities for the Independance Day celebration.

Bunker Hill, Brighton, Carlinville, Girard, Virden and Wilsonville are ready to provide their tastes of the summer season for people of all ages.

Festivities begin July 3 and will continue over the next two weekends.

Bunker Hill

FIREMAN’S PICNIC at James Bertagnolli Park July 12

Tractor pulls – 11 a.m.

Live music by Miranda Bury – 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Cornhole tournament –  5 p.m. (sign-ups at 4 p.m.)

Live music by Midwest Avenue – 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

Fireworks at dusk

Beer tent, vendors, food trucks and inflatables all day long.

Brighton

INDEPENDANCE DAY AT THE PARK at Schneider Park

July 5

Firecracker 5k – Registration from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.; 9 a.m. start; Awards for top male and female finisher.

BAA Home Run Derby – Youth and adult sign-up at 11 a.m.; 11:30 start; Awards to follow.

Dunk Tank Dunk-Off – Featuring Mayor Matt Kasten, Fire Chief Jason Bowman and Police Sargeant Dustin Ford from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Watermelon Eating Contest – 2:30 p.m. sign-ups; 3 p.m. start; Awards to follow

BMX Racing – 5:30 p.m. start

Cake and Pie Baking Competition – Turn in by 4:30 p.m.; Judging at 5 p.m.; Awards to follow; Cakes and pies to be auctioned off following the awards.

Craft vendors beginning at 10 a.m. and food provided from 11 a.m. to end.

Bouncers and Water Slides starting at noon – wristbands for unlimited times on all inflatables are $20 apiece.

Fireworks are at dusk.

Fireworks Spectacular at the Macoupin County Fairgrounds July 12 at dusk (following Spencer’s Annual Showdown).

Girard

4TH OF JULY CELEBRATION at Oak Hills Country Club and Winery July 4

Hardest Par 3 Tournament – sign-ups at 8:30 a.m.; tee off at 9 a.m.; $30 for members and $40 for non-members.

Free kids activities – Drive, chip and putt at 3 p.m.; Fishing Derby at 4 p.m.

Blind Draw Bags Tournament – 5 p.m.; $10 entry; $5 kids’ division pending enough interest.

Drinks on the patio and music with DJ Josh – 5:30 p.m.

Food – Outdoor grill 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; full lunch menu 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; limited dinner menu 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

VIRDEN AMERICAN LEGION POST #386 FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATION at Virden City Park July 3-5

Homemade rides all three days – $.25 tickets

Food Tent – Serving fish sandwiches, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, french fries and drinks beginning at 5 p.m. July 3-4 and 11 a.m. July 5.

Games – $.50 per game

Cake Walk – July 3-4 starting at 6:45 p.m.

Cookie Walk – July 5 starting at 1 p.m.
