Public Hearing

At 5:45 p.m., Bobbi Bates presented an update on the Energy Transition Grant.  She said the City has advanced to the second round.  The first round, the City received $145,000.  This was down from the previous year where the City received $275,000.  But this year other locations around the City also received money through the first round such as the library, the veterans association and the County.  Some of the items that the City spent the money on included working on building capacity with Frank Myers looking at ordinances and zoning.  The other areas of interest that will be perused in the future will include 1) improving communication and transparency, 2) an annexation plan to expand boundaries and grow in a structured manner, 3) manage Carlinville lakes either residential or recreational and offer new economic opportunities, 4) work with soil and water districts to protect valuable resources for future generations, and 5) create a business park that could boost local economic growth and diversification that will hopefully attract more companies.  Another is managing the storm water concerns and infrastructure of the water and sewer system. Randy Tinder spoke to the board about his concerns and requests.  He knows the public is invited to the different meetings but not a lot attend.  Maybe the Grant will assist in making the meetings live stream so they will be accessible when one is not able to attend in person.
