Wilma “Cricket” File

Wilma “Cricket” File, 95, of Palmyra, passed away on Wednesday morning April 2, 2025 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

She was born May 6, 1929 in Palmyra, the daughter of the late Leland “Ink” and Verda DeWitt Eyer.

She married Fred File, Jr. on June 28, 1958 in Carlinville.

Cricket was a graduate of Palmyra High School.

Cricket along with her husband owned and operated Fredo and Cricket’s Northside Tavern in Palmyra from 1961 to 1976 and was known for their Wednesday ham and beans.

She is survived by her husband; children, Susie Fenton (Brian) of Palmyra, Kathy Wolff (Bill) of St. Louis, MO., Steve File of Palmyra; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; sister, Marilyn Armstrong (Bill) of Hettick; brother, Gary Eyer (Patty) of Hettick; several nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters and four brothers.

Visitation was held on Monday, April 7 at Stults-Neece Chapel in Palmyra. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at Stults-Neece Chapel in Palmyra.

Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Palmyra.
