The Carlinville High School girls’ basketball team picked up another trifecta of wins last week. The Cavaliers whacked Riverton, Litchfield and Lincolnwood, and remained on course for an outright South Central Conference title.
Carlinville 57, Riverton 21
Carlinville surged to a 35-8 halftime lead and buried Riverton, 57-21, at the Big House Jan. 13.
Isabella Tiburzi had a game-high 16 points for the Cavaliers, who also got 15 points on five threes from Kaitlyn Reels.
Carlinville 65, Litchfield 29
On Jan. 16, Carlinville improved to 5-0 in the South Central Conference with a 65-29 home victory over Litchfield.
Four CHS players logged double figures, including Jordyn Loveless with 16 points, K. Reels with 12 points, and Ruthie Reels and Tiburzi with 10 tallies apiece.
From the opening tipoff, Carlinville’s experienced squad was simply too much for Litchfield’s young team of four freshmen starters to handle. By the end of the first quarter, the Cavaliers already had a 28-5 lead over the Panthers. The game was no longer in doubt by halftime with Carlinville up 42-15.
Carlinville 51, Lincolnwood 18
Carlinville used another dominant first quarter to set the tone in a 51-18 routing of Lincolnwood at Raymond Jan. 17.
The Cavaliers, led by 18 tallies from K. Reels, outscored the Lancers 25-3 in the first eight minutes and brought their record to 17-3 on the season.
Carlinville also received scoring contributions from Loveless (eight points), Hannah Gibson (seven points), Tiburzi (six points), Braley Wiser (six points), R. Reels (four points) and Addy Jines (two points).
