Threats unfounded at Carlinville High School

The Carlinville High School was subject to police investigations on Thursday and Friday of last week due to reported threats. After investigating the situation it was determined that no threats were made. Students were sent to classes and asked to remain there while the reports were being investigated.
In a letter sent by Superintendent Dr. Becky Schuchmann, no weapons were found and no one was arrested, contrary to rumors otherwise. All reports are treated as an actual threat until an investigation has occurred to deem in otherwise.
Schuchmann also stated that there could be many reasons for a school to go on hold or in lockdown, not just because of active violence.
Schuchmann addressed the fact that some people did not receive notification that a threat was being investigated. She urges all parents to make sure their Skyward accounts are up to date with current contact information and to reach out to building secretaries if the information is up to date but a message was not received. She also asks that parents or guardians not contact or come to the schools during such events. In the case of an actual emergency, extra people and overloaded phone lines can slow down emergency response times. The school district prioritizes getting students and staff to safety, assessing any threats and then contacting guardians during any hold, secure or lockdown situation.
