John Matthew Steele

John Matthew Steele, 74, of Palmyra, passed away early Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2024 at Hallmark Healthcare in Carlinville.

He was born Jan. 6, 1950 in Virden, the son of Linas and Ada Allen Steele.

He married Jacquline “Susie” Clayton on Oct. 26, 1994 in Carlinville.

John worked many years at Aramark in Springfield, and recently in the produce section at Meijer in Springfield.

John was an Army veteran serving two tours in Vietnam.

He is survived by his wife; children, Wade Kruemmelbein (Sarah) of Daytona Beach, Fl., Wendy Drnjevic (Francis) of Girard, Don West (Tiffany) of Petersburg, Daniel West (Tonya) of Palmyra; eleven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog Jack and his cat Gray.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Buddy Steele, Raymond Steele, Charlotte Sepesy, and Robert Steele.

John’s family will hold a private Celebration of Life at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Macoupin County Animal Shelter and sent to Stults-Neece Chapel, 349 E. Tanner, Waverly, Il. 62692.
