North Mac introduces new wrestling coach

North Mac High School has introduced Allen Michel as its wrestling coach and newest teacher.
Allen is from Moriarty, New Mexico and has wrestled since he was six years old. He was a two-time New Mexico State Champion. Allen was additionally a second team All State football player and Valedictorian of his graduating class.
After high school, Allen accepted a scholarship to wrestle at New Mexico Highlands University, a small Division II school located in Las Vegas, New Mexico, where he got his bachelors’ degrees in English and Political Science. He gained All-American status in 2022 by placing eighth at the National Tournament, where he also received the Elite 90 award, given to the athlete with the highest grade point average at the tournament. He finished his collegiate career with a Master’s Degree in English Literature, with a focus on early to mid-20th century American Literature.
After college, Allen stayed with the sport of wrestling and coached at the collegiate level for two years. During the second year, he was also an instructor of Freshman Composition for the university.
Along with being the head wrestling coach at North Mac, Allen will be teaching dual credit English, upper-level English Language Arts, and introductory Spanish classes.
Wrestling practices began in the Old Gym at North Mac’s South Campus June 10 and will continue throughout the summer. Coach Allen will be able to provide schedules for all those who attend.
