Donald Eugene Gibbs

 

Donald Eugene Gibbs, 90, of Modesto Illinois, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 17, 2026, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

 

Donald was born on July 6, 1935, in Modesto, IL. to Loren Gibbs and Hazel Snyder Gibbs.

 

After graduating from Northwestern High School, he went on to serve in the Army.

 

In 1962, he married Carolyn Boston.

 

Donald started a construction business, which he continued until his retirement.

 

He was a member of the Church of Israel in Schell City Missouri. He enjoyed spending time at the church and made many lifelong friends.

 

Donald enjoyed going to fish fries at his son’s house, collecting antique cars, traveling around the state to car shows, and meeting new friends. He had an extensive collection of trophies that he won over the years.

 

He is survived by his children John Gibbs (wife Tracy) of Waverly, Jeffrey Gibbs of Modesto, David Gibbs of Modesto, Connie Wreath (husband Shawn) of Woodward Oklahoma; grandchildren, Holly Points, Chad Gibbs, Jason Gibbs, Jessica Gibbs, Jared Gibbs, Sean Hartman, KC Mae Kelly, Andrew Gibbs, Bradley Gibbs, David Gibbs Jr., Jean Ann Haycraft, Sacha Martin, Garrett Wreath; 34 great grandchildren; siblings, Bob Gibbs, Norman Gibbs and Kathy Grimmett.

 

Donald was predeceased by his parents, grandson; Jeffrey Neil Gibbs and his beloved canine companion Buddy.

 

Private services will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Palmyra, IL. with military honors conducted by Palmyra American Legion Post.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Palmyra American Legion Post.
