Camille Mayfield Cooper Brotze

Camille Mayfield Cooper Brotze was born to Virginia and George Cooper on November 6, 1940. She passed away peacefully on April 9, 2026. A loving friend to many and a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
Camille grew up in Carlinville, where she attended Carlinville High School. She was well known for her talent as a majorette twirler and for her leadership of a popular youth twirling camp called the “Cooperettes.”
She began her college education at Monticello College in Godfrey, Illinois, before transferring to Southern Methodist University her junior year, where she majored in Education and French. At SMU, she earned the distinction of featured majorette of the Mustang Band — famously known as “96 Guys and a Doll” — and it was there that she met her husband, Wayne.
Camille was a devoted community volunteer, serving in multiple roles with the Junior Forum of San Antonio and numerous community and youth organizations in which her children were involved. She also skillfully oversaw the business operations of her family farm and land investments in her hometown of Carlinville.
Known for her charismatic warmth and her gift for making everyone feel welcome, Camille never met a stranger. She had a true talent for bringing people together — whether organizing lively social gatherings or planning unforgettable adventures with family and friends across the globe.
Camille is survived by her husband, Wayne; sons, Matthew (Tracy) of Alameda, CA., Todd (Jessica) of Los Angeles, CA; grandchildren Cooper, Turner, Linnea, and Emmett.
Camille is preceded in death by her parents.
