Something special is coming to Carlinville, they are getting a new grocery store. Our Market at the Plaza will be opening sometime soon this year. It will be a community owned grocery store that will connect the community of shoppers to local producers. The main difference Our Market is wanting to have compared to the big stores is a more personable customer service. Brad Walker, the General Manager, said he and the other employees are planning to learn most everyone’s name and get to know them personally. When one shops at Our Market, the staff will know you and be able to cater to your needs. For example, when one checks out there will be someone to bag your groceries and take them out your vehicle.

Our Market at the Plaza will be located at the Carlinville Plaza on the west end. The store will be set up similar to a normal grocery store. They will have fresh produce, bakery, deli, fresh meat, frozen food, milk and so much more. The deli will feature daily specials and some standard items. There will also be a community room where different ones could meet for small meetings and to have lunch. Our Market is planning on being open 7 days a week.

Different ones are able to become an owner for $200 or invest in the store starting at $1000. The ones who invest in the store will receive 5% annual interest. The group is still accepting applications. One will be able to stop at the Plaza, door #40 to fill out an application or go on line at their website: ourmarketattheplaza.com. By being a co-op with multiple owners, the store is not out to make a profit for one owner. Our Market is something that everyone will be a part of, so this gives them the ability to try and make it better for everyone.

One does not have to be a member to shop at Our Market. Everyone will be welcomed and will have access to sale items. Some benefits for being a member will include access to different food and cooking demonstrations, covered parking and other special member only events. The members will also have the opportunity to vote on who is on the board with only one membership per person.
