Samuel J. Palmer

 

Samuel J. Palmer, 84, of Gillespie, IL, passed away at Arc at Sangamon Valley, on Sunday, February 8, 2026 at 5 p.m.

 

He was born September 8, 1941, in Gillespie, IL to Charles Palmer and Myrna Cleeton Palmer.

 

Sam was a lifelong resident of Gillespie and a graduate of Gillespie High School.

 

He worked in Gillespie as a meat cutter for Wellers Grocery, Wilsons and Randy’s Grocery until he retired in September of 2006.

 

Sam enjoyed sitting on his patio with his neighbors and friends, feeding the birds and squirrels in his yard and watching old movies and ball games on TV.  He was an avid Dodgers fan.

 

He is survived by his sister, Lorraine Bivin; brother, Richard Palmer; several nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Albert Palmer; sisters, Eva Palmer, Lena Hampton, Gloria Moyer, Bernice Thomas, Pauline Coatney, Arline Hopper and Dorothy Hubbard.

 

Visitation will be on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at Kravanya Funeral Home, Gillespie from 12 to 1 p.m.  Funeral services are Thursday, February 12, 2026 at 1 p.m. at Kravanya Funeral Home, Gillespie with Art Roemer officiating.  Burial will be at Gillespie Cemetery, Gillespie, IL.
