Big Papa G Music Trivia was held at the Elks on Friday, March 21 to benefit the Royal Family KIDS Camp. There was a 50/50 drawing along with a silent auction. Some of the items that was auctioned off were gift baskets and gift certificates. It cost $100 per team with up to 10 players.

The organizers raised $6000 that will help fund the camp and their monthly mentoring program. The trivia judges were Vicki Allen, Tammy Dugan, Terry and Vicky Burns and the winning trivia team was Team Sanson. The group had Queens, Charlie Steward and Oakley Frankford helping with the event.

This is the second year for the music trivia. Each year it would have a special presentation with information on the Royal Family KIDS Camp with Mindy and Jim Savant presenting this year.

According to Mindy Savant, the Royal Family KIDS Camp was created by Wayne Tesch in California in 1985. It is a weeklong camp for children in the foster care system. They raise money all year long to create a week full of “moments that matter.” The week includes the typical camp activities such as swimming, canoeing, archery, fishing and crafts.

They also have daily events that are special to RFK such as a tea party for the young ladies and Men on Mission for the young boys. They even have a camp-wide birthday party that includes personalized cakes and presents for each camper. The highlight of the week is the daily bible stories that are selected to help teach the children about God who has a plan for each and every one of their lives. Each year the staff of over 50 volunteers are trained in trauma informed care.

Jim and Mindy Savant, who are the directors, travel to local churches to share the mission of this ministry. Check out their website forthechildrenmacmontil.com for upcoming fundraisers and read their monthly newsletters. They also have a Facebook page, “For the Children-Royal Family Kids Camp-Carlinville.”
