Carlinville School Board approved bonds totaling $5,000,000 at February meeting

The Carlinville School Board held its monthly meeting on Mon., Feb. 10. Several topics were discussed, including bond issuances, employment and updates to the course description booklet for the upcoming school year.

Bond Resolutions

The board approved the resolutions providing for the issuances of two bonds. One bond is not to exceed $1,000,000 for the purpose of funding an insurance reserve.

The other bond is not to exceed $4,000,000 for the purpose of altering and reconstructing school buildings, specifically the Primary School, for equipment such as fire prevention, energy conservation and school security upgrades.

Course Description Booklet

The High School Course Description Booklet is undergoing several changes to expand class offerings and widen career paths. Several subjects are looking at adding practical application classes, such as foreign languages in the workplace and math classes with a vocational aspect to give a hands on learning experience. The course descriptions were approved on a tentative basis but will come back before the board at the March meeting.

Employment

The board accepted the resignations of Carol Kaburick and Rita Bloome, who will retire at the end of the 2024-25 school year; Katie Dunn as a middle school assistant girl’s basketball coach; Lexie Black as an elementary teacher at the end of the school year and James McGowan as a custodian.

The board approved the hiring of Mallory Daughtery and Rose Grace for musical set decorations; Jason Crowell and the Academic Challenge chemistry coach and high school girl’s soccer head coach, Hillary Kellerman as the middle school boys track coach, Shay Kellerman as the middle school volunteer track coach and Chloe Albrecht as an elementary teacher.

Other Business

The board approved the auditor’s contract with Loy, Miller, Talley PC to conduct the FY25 financial audit.

The service and software agreement with Senergy for security and intercom systems in the district was approved.

The board approved a motion to adopt the resolution to participate in the State of Illinois Federal Surplus Property Program.

The board also approved the resolution in support of Vision 2030. Vision 2030 is a blueprint outlining priorities in public education for K-12 students.
