Patrick “Ernie” Costello

 

Patrick “Ernie” Costello, 61, of Carlinville passed away Thursday, Jan. 30, 2025 at his home surrounded by loved ones and family.

Ernie was born March 28th, 1963, in Carlinville, son of Joseph “Tony” Costello and Wanita “Sally” Costello.

He graduated from Carlinville High School in 1981.

He married Debra (Welte) Costello on June 4, 1983 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Carlinville.

Ernie had a career spanning decades: working at Carlinville Grain Company, on the barges of the Illinois River and, until his death, as a shop foreman at Bob Lamb Company in their truck shop.

He was a mechanically inclined man who always had an inventive solution to whatever problem may come his way. He was the first person to call when you had an issue, and he couldn’t have been happier to help anyone who needed it.

Ernie enjoyed camping with friends, hunting, fishing, grilling out and spending time in the shed.

Ernie is survived by his wife, Debra; sons, Benjamin and Ian Costello; siblings, Mary Ann (Charlie) Wilson, Ruthie (Don) Lang, Carol Jo Costello-Jose, David “Buck” (Glenda) Costello, Lisa (Bob) Ayres, Sara (Jon) Klaus; many nieces and nephews. He will always be remembered as an honorary dad to many.

Ernie was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Tom Still and Donald “Arkie” Still.

Visitation will be Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025, from 1 to 4 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Carlinville. Memorial service to follow at 4 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the family to help defer medical expenses.
