Jacqueline Sue Leferink

Jacqueline Sue (Caveny) Leferink, 66, passed away at 11:08 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2024, at Halifax Health Hospice Care Center in Orange City, FL.
Jacquie was born April 9, 1958, in Alton, the daughter of Charles and Billie (Miller) Caveny.
She grew up in Bunker Hill and graduated from Bunker Hill High School in 1976.
She went on to attend Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in television and radio.
She was also employed by WSMI doing Macoupin County News and then also at WKAM/WZOW Radio station in Goshen, IN.
She married David Anthony Leferink on April 7, 1984.
After being a stay-at- home mother for a time, she went back to school to obtain her teaching certificate. She also earned a Teaching Exceptional Children Certificate from the Alliance for Catholic Education at the University of Notre Dame. She began her educating career first as a tutor in 2001 and then in the classroom in 2003, impacting hundreds of students in Catholic and public schools in Washington, Texas, and Florida. At the time of her passing, she was a tutor at Huntington Learning Center in Longwood and Millenium Middle School in Sanford.
Jacquie enjoyed music, St. Louis Cardinals baseball, Notre Dame football, NASCAR, the occasional trip to the casino and being the life of the party wherever she went.
Jacquie is survived by her husband of 40 years David; her mother Billie; her children, Charles and Meaghan (Becca Guest); brothers, Mike (Dawn) Caveny, Kevin (Kathy), James, and Sean; grandson, Christopher; several nieces and nephews; and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her father; sister in law, Sherri Caveny and niece, Jennifer Briesacher.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10 am at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Staunton, on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025. A funeral mass for Jacqueline will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Staunton, on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025 at 10 am.
Burial will be in St. Denis Cemetery, Shipman.
