HS girls’ basketball: Both Carlinville teams defeat Williamsville and Athens

The Carlinville High School girls’ basketball team got off to a 2-0 start at both the varsity and JV levels, defeating Williamsville and Athens last week.
At the Big House Nov. 18, a family duo took charge for the Lady Cavaliers as Ruthie and Kaitlyn Reels powered CHS over the Bullets. Ruthie poured in 12 points to help Carlinville’s JV to a tight 17-15 victory. Then, Kaitlyn logged a game-high 14 tallies and the varsity team pulled away, 48-30, after trailing by two points at the half.
At Athens Nov. 19, Taylor Brandenburg matched the Warriors’ entire team in scoring with 10 points and the JV led off with a 17-10 triumph.
In the varsity contest, Isabella Tiburzi dropped 20 points after posting 13 in the season opener against Williamsville. K. Reels also stayed hot with 16 points on five threes and the Cavaliers knocked off the Warriors, 53-44.
