The quest for perfection is continuing on into the Illinois Elementary School Class 2A state tournament for the Staunton Junior High School softball team.
With a 10-2 victory over St. Elmo at Ben-Gil Elementary School in Gillespie last weekend, the Terriers became sectional champions with an undefeated 14-0 record.
Staunton also raised regional hardware at Ben-Gil a few days prior as the Terriers knocked off Roxana, 9-3, and Greenville, 7-6.
Staunton travels to Normal for a single elimination Elite Eight showdown with Illini Bluffs this Fri., Sept. 27. Game time is 2 p.m.
If the Terriers win against Bluffs, they will guarantee themselves two more games as a member of the IESA Class 2A finals.
Staunton would return to Normal to face either Metamora or Paris Mayo at noon Sept. 28 for a chance to play for the state title later that day at 4 p.m. A loss drops the Terriers into the 2 p.m. third place game.
