Bill Grant Ewing

 

Bill Grant Ewing, 87, of Hamel, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024, at his residence.

He was born Feb. 27, 1936, in Blue Rapids, KS, the son of the late Leonard and Ellen Ewing.

Bill served in the U.S. Army from Nov. 19, 1956, for three years before being honorably discharged.

He married Chris Bettorf on Feb. 27, 1981. In 1993, he retired from Shell Oil Refinery as a pipefitter/welder and maintenance crafts training coordinator. The first 11 years with Shell Oil he drove a fuel tanker out of St. Louis. Bill kept his class A/CDL license current well into his 70’s, a fact he was very proud of. He was not one to sit around after retirement, he made use of his CDL and took a job with Pioneer Research driving their tractor trailer. He greatly enjoyed 10 years at Pioneer hauling combines and making great friendships. Throughout his life he enjoyed traveling, especially west to Colorado.

In addition to his wife of 42 years, Chris, he is survived by a daughter, Kim Pearson (Rodney), of Carlinville; stepson, Matt Luchtefeld (Amy) of Worden; stepdaughter, Jayne Endres (David), of Edwardsville; daughter in law, Debbie Ewing, of Benld; grandchildren, Brandon Link (Jenni), Nick Ewing, Ellie, Avery and Luke Luchtefeld, Sarah Endres; great grandchildren, Miriam and Ruby; sister, Shirley Colliver (Gayel); brother, Robert Ewing; several brothers and sisters in law; and many nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and sons, William and Christopher Ewing.

He will be cremated according to his wishes and there will be no services also according to his wishes. Weber & Rodney Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
