Doris Boente

 

Doris Boente, 96, of Carlinville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 14, 2023, with her family by her side.

She was born in 1926, the daughter of James R. and Agnes Campbell Bloomfield.

She married B. Joseph Boente on Nov. 29, 1947. He preceded her in death in 1962.

She was a graduate of Carlinville High School, Class of 1944.

When her brothers went to the service during World War II, she supported the war effort by working at the draft board.

She worked as a bookkeeper at Joseph F. Boente Sons for 30 years.

Her Catholic faith was a pillar of her life. As a life-long member of Saints Mary and Joseph Catholic Church she served in many capacities: as a Minister of Holy Communion, as a member of the choir for over 40 years, and as a teacher in the PSR program for over 40 years. In June of 2015 she was honored with an Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Women of Distinction Award.

She was a member of the Carlinville Public Library Board for 40 years, serving as secretary of many years. She was director of the Lewis and Clark Library System Board from 1980 to 1982.

She was a charter member of the Carlinville Country Club and a long-time member of the club’s Women’s Golf League where she enjoyed the camaraderie of generations of women golfers. She was an active swimmer into her nineties.

She is survived by three sons, Joseph Boente of Gillespie, Dana Boente of Carlinville, Dr. Matthew Boente (Kathy) of San Francisco, CA.; six grandchildren, Lindsay Sarver (Aaron), Joey Boente, Alyssa Boente, Matthew Boente, Tyler Boente, Brien Boente; a great-granddaughter, Briley Richardson; a sister, Ticky Haasis of Mesa, AA; many nieces and nephews; Andrea Oliver, a family friend who acted as a caregiver for almost four years, assisting with all of Doris’ health, physical and spiritual needs.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, James J. “Spot” Bloomfield and L. Eugene Bloomfield.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 19, 2023, at Saints Mary and Joseph Catholic Church, Carlinville. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 10 a.m. at Saints Mary and Joseph Catholic Church with Reverend Father Joe Koyickal, SAC, celebrant. The Rite of Committal and burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Saints Mary and Joseph Catholic Church or the Carlinville Public Library.
