Dorothy Mae (Varner) Bomkamp

Dorothy Mae (Varner) Bomkamp, 95, of Carlinville, IL, passed away Friday, June 5, 2026, at her daughter’s home in Mount Olive, IL.

Dorothy was born September 18, 1930, in Litchfield, IL, a daughter of Shirley Varner and Anna (Flynn) Varner.

She graduated from Carlinville High School with the class of 1948.

She married Robert Bomkamp, on November 26, 1949 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Carlinville. He proceeded her in death and she later married Leonard J. Bomkamp in November of 1997 at Ss Mary and Joseph Catholic Church.

Dorothy was a hard working woman and had many careers starting as a hairdresser for 10 years in Sullivan, IL. Then she became the administrator for Staunton Health and Rehabilitation Center for five years. Dorothy continued her journey of caretaking as the secretary for St. Simon and Jude Catholic Church in Gillespie where she finally retired.

Dorothy had a strong faith and was a member of Ss Mary and Joseph Catholic Church and their Alter and Rosary Society. Outside of her faith Dorothy enjoyed other things like playing piano and crocheting.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Keith (Carolyn) Bomkamp of Wood River, IL; daughter, Camelia Bomkamp of Mt. Olive, IL;  step-sons, Daniel Bomkamp of Carlinville, IL, Patrick (Beth) Bomkamp of Evansville, IN, Jeffrey (Beth) Bomkamp of Huntsville, AL, Michael (Stacy) Bomkamp of Savannah, GA, Robert Bomkamp of Ft. Worth, TX, Thomas (Elizabeth) Bomkamp of Fate, TX; step-daughters, Mary (Bill) Leyrer of Duncan, OK, Rebecca (Carlos) Munguia of Chicago, IL; six grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters and half-sister, Judy Thieson of Litchfield, IL.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, daughter, Cecelia Crites; grandsons in law, Robert Welch and Matthew Schwab.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026, 9 to11 a.m. at Ss Mary & Joseph Catholic Church, Carlinville, IL.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Friday, June 12, 2026 at Ss Mary & Joseph Catholic Church, Carlinville.

Burial will follow in New Calvary Cemetery, Carlinville.

Memorials may be made to Ss Mary and Joseph Catholic Church.
