Lois Helen Schmidt

 

Lois Helen Schmidt, 80, of Carlinville, passed away Monday, May 19, 2025, at Lakeside Health and Rehab Center in Carlinville.  

Lois was born May 14, 1945, in Fort Wayne, IN, a daughter of Walter and Helen (Kramer) Schwane.  

Lois graduated from Stewardson-Strasburg High School in 1963 and earned a degree in education from Eastern Illinois University – which is where she met Norm. Lois and Norm got married on Dec. 17, 1966.

After teaching elementary school for a few years, Lois started her role as a stay-at-home mom. As Becky and Mike got older, she went to work at the Macoupin County Enquirer. Lois had her own antique business for many years with booths at the Lighthouse Antique Mall. She also enjoyed birds and flowers, with her yard full of bird feeders and flowers.

Lois is survived by her daughter, Becky (Jason) Lodes of St. Louis, MO; son, Mike (Lori) Schmidt of Carlinville; granddaughters, Sydney (Josh) Sisson of Collinsville, Bailey Schmidt of Staunton, Marley Schmidt of Gillespie, Jordyn Lodes of St. Louis, MO; sister, Grace (Dave) Poertner of St. Charles, MO; brothers, Wally (Sherry) Schwane of Camas, WA, John (Ruth) Schwane of Broken Arrow, OK, Jim (Ada) Schwane of Whitehouse, TX, Tom (Kathy) Schwane of Waterloo; sister, Helen O’Neal of Washington; several nieces and nephews.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents and husband.  

Visitation will be held on Friday, Aug. 15, 2025, 5 to 7 p.m. at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinville.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 10 a.m., on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2025, at Zion Lutheran Church, Carlinville.

Burial will take place at Mayfield Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Carlinville Public Library or to the Macoupin County Historical Society.
