Eugene L. “Moe” Maguire

Eugene L. “Moe” Maguire, 91, of Carlinville, passed away Sunday evening, Dec. 22, 2024, at Carlinville Rehab & Health Care in Carlinville.

Moe was born Sept. 7, 1933, in Carlinville, a son of Gerald and Martha Maguire.

Moe and Betty were married April 4, 1954 in Carlinville and shared 70 years together.

He built the home they lived in for over 67 years.  Moe was a self-employed construction worker specializing in plaster and concrete work.
He loved to work his Munsterlander dogs, as hunting quail and pheasant was his passion.

Moe loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting squirrels, putting in a large gardens and sharing his crop with neighbors and friends.
He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal and Fighting Illini Fan.

Moe is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter, Cindy Maguire; son, Greg (Sally) Maguire all of Carlinville; grandson, Cody Maguire; granddaughter, Ali Maguire; two great grandchildren; sister, Carole Britenstine of Virden; several nieces and nephews.

Moe was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeff Maguire; brothers, Jack, Dick, Jerry Maguire and sister, Patricia Olhuin.

Private family services will be held with no public visitation accorded.

Burial will follow in Moore Cemetery, Carlinville.

Memorials may be made to Macoupin County Animal Shelter.
