William Herbert Vancil

William Herbert Vancil, 72, of Carlinville, went to be with the lord on Oct. 3, 2024 at 3 p.m. At DePaul Hospital, St. Louis, MO.

William (Bill) was born to Wilma and Howard Vancil of Gillespie on April 19, 1952.

Bill was a 911 Dispatcher, an EMT for the Carlinville Ambulance Service and retired from the Carlinville Police Department as a Police Dispatcher in 2009.

Bill was an active member of Memorial Christian Church, where he was a Deacon and was involved in music.

He was a member of the Macoupin County Historical Society where he helped with the blacksmith shop, saw mill and many other tasks.

He was a big fan of Nascar Racing.

Bill was survived by his wife Janice of 42 years; step-children, Becky, Chris and Joel Oatsval; step grandchildren, Jeremy Mullens, Nicole Mullens, Derek Challecombe, Gracen, Park and Christopher Oatsval Jr.; great grandson, Ryder Challecombe.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, James and Helen

Visitation will be held on Oct. 19, 2024 at 10 a.m. with Memorial service beginning at 11 a.m. at the Memorial Christian Church, 410 E. 1st N. St., Carlinville.

Memorials may be made to the Memorial Christian Church or Macoupin County Animal Shelter.
