Becky Halcomb

 

Becky Halcomb went on to the Glory, Jesus promised all believers, the morning of Aug. 6, 2024, in her home at four corners west of Pond Creek, OK.

Jennifer Rebecca Phelps was born Jan. 19, 1971, in Enid, OK and lived her entire life calling Pond Creek home.

She was the daughter of Lois May Geil Phelps and Harvey Phelps.

She married Sammy Joe Halcomb, on Feb. 22, 1997. Sam is the son of the late Sandy and Billy Joe Halcomb.   Becky’s maternal grandparents were Florence and Glenn Geil of Enid, OK.  Her Paternal grandparents were Harvey and Lena Phelps of Carlinville.

Becky graduated from the Pond Creek/Hunter schools as the Valedictorian of her senior class in 1989.  She graduated as the top student in the College of Agriculture at Oklahoma State University in 1993.

She was a horse woman from the beginning bucked off before she was even born.  She and her trainer/mother showed Hunter Jumper horses all over the country, including thirteen appearances at the American Quarter Horse Association World Show in Oklahoma City and the Sun Circuit in Scottsdale, AZ

Upon graduation she went to work for Gene Wilson & Associates, inc. of Pond Creek rising to Corporate President.  She traveled all over the central United States doing Photofinish, Video and Winner’s Circle photography at horse race tracks.  Her work at the racetracks was cut short by Colon Cancer shortly after Thanksgiving in 2018.  She worked as the Video Director the summer of 2021 for thirty-six race days in Wyoming while taking chemo in Salt Lake City.

She was an active member of the Pond Creek Methodist Church her entire life.  She was particularly active in the community Food Bank and the distribution of that food.  She was an EMT with the Pond Creek EMS.

She is survived by brother; Harvey George (Bud) Phelps of Irving,  TX, and numerous cousins.

Funeral services for Becky were on Friday, Aug. 9, 2024 at the Methodist Church, Pond Creek, OK, officiated by Pastor Randy Kiel. Interment followed at the Pond Creek Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Pond Creek Methodist Church, St. Mary’s Cancer Center or Hospice Circle of Love.
