Edna Mae Abney

Edna Mae Abney, 87, of Carlinville passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

Edna was born on April 27, 1937 in Carlinville to Goldie (Coats) Gotcher and Charley Gotcher.

She married Richard D. Abney on Dec. 22, 1956 in Gillespie.

Edna worked for Phelps, Carmody, Russell & Kasten Law firm in Carlinville. Then she became the church secretary for the First Assembly of God in Carlinville. She worked for two wonderful pastors before retiring and moving with her husband to Cape Coral FL. They lived in Florida almost 20 years, until her husbands death in 2017.

In 2018, Edna moved back to her hometown of Carlinville.

Edna was a devoted Christian and loved the Lord with all her heart.

She was an avid walker and walked two miles around the courthouse faithfully. If it was cold or raining outside, she would be found walking from one end of the hospital hallways to the other. Everyone out there knew and loved her.

Edna is survived by her daughter, Becky (Todd) Koller; grandsons, Ryan (Tonya) and their children Makayla and Brantley, Tyler (girlfriend Stacy) and her three kids and granddaughter; sisters, Pearl Gotcher of Carlinville, Lois Gotcher Schack/Hunter of AZ, Janet Gotcher Robertson/Tate of TN; five nieces and eight nephews.

She was preceded in death by her spouse; parents; brother, Don Gotcher and sister, Virginia Gotcher Smith.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Prairie Lawn Cemetery on Route 4, Carlinville with Pastor Steve

Schmidt officiating. Services are open for anyone that wishes to attend.
