North Mac was the only Macoupin County program that started out undefeated at all four grade levels. The fifth, sixth and seventh grade Panthers all handled business against Gillespie while the eighth graders dominated New Berlin, 45-0. North Mac won the fifth grade contest, 46-0, and the sixth grade game, 50-0, in blowout fashion. The seventh grade game, on the other hand, was neck-in-neck up until the Panthers pulled away, 30-16, in the fourth quarter.
Southwestern took two of three games against Hillsboro. The fifth graders suffered a tough 8-6 loss but the seventh and eighth graders both came out on top. The seventh grade Birds topped the Toppers, 12-6, and the eighth graders were in complete control from the opening whistle en route to a 30-0 victory.
Staunton also picked up two victories. The sixth and eighth grade squads defeated Greenville 26-0 (6th) and 30-26 (8th), respectively. The fifth graders were overpowered by the Comets, 42-6. The seventh graders battled Rochester in an intense scrimmage. Although they lost 28-20, a gritty bunch of upcoming Bulldogs put up quite a fight against athletes from the Springfield area, which is known for many highly-successful programs that include Rochester.
Carlinville and Pana split four contests. The Cavaliers swept the fifth and sixth grade jamboree with 20-6 and 32-0 statements, then the Panthers rebounded a 19-7 victory in the seventh place game and a 6-0 shutout of the eighth graders.
