Rick Garbin

Rick Garbin, 72, of Gillespie, passed away at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at 1:03 pm.

He was born March 17, 1953, in Staunton, to Louis P. Garbin and Marie (Grman) Garbin.

He married Regina  M. Bomkamp on July 20, 1974 in Gillespie.

Rick was a retired coal miner for Monterey Coal Company and currently worked for Napa Auto Stores.

Rick enjoyed walking, golfing, fishing, was an avid pro football fan and being with his family and vacationing.

He is survived by his wife, Regina Garbin of Gillespie; son, Ricky (Amanda) Garbin of Staunton; daughter, Rachel Garbin of Mt. Olive; grandchildren, Rhett Garbin, Roslyn Hollers; brother, Tom (Ruth) Garbin of Sawyerville; mother-in-law, Maxine Bomkamp of Carlinville; brother-in-law, Frank (Shelley) Barrett of Gillespie; several nieces and nephews.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Bill Bomkamp.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at  Kravanya Funeral Home in Gillespie and Funeral services were Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at Kravanya Funeral Home in Gillespie with Fr. Joe Koyickal officiating.  Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery in Gillespie.

Memorials are suggested to Holy Cross Cemetery, Benld Cemetery, or to the American Heart Association.
