Deborah C. Hughes

Deborah “Debbie” C. Hughes, 74, of Carlinville, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2025, at Addington Place in Edwardsville.
Debbie was born, in St. Louis, MO, a daughter of Fred and Margie (McIlvain) Schuman.
She married Mervyn L. “Merv” Hughes on April 24, 1971, in Carlinville United Methodist Church.
Debbie had several jobs over a period of time in Carlinville. She started at F&M Bank, as a teller, Prairie Farms working several years in different areas, the Macoupin County Courthouse as an administrative assistant and after retiring from the courthouse she worked part time in housekeeping at the hospital to keep herself busy and loved it.
She loved to drive around in her car listening to music and feeling the sun on her face. She was well known by everyone as a sweet, kind person and willing to help anyone she could.
Debbie is survived by her daughter, Kelly (Mike) Emmons of Carlinville; son, Curt (Fiancée Jennifer Gilmer) Hughes of Carlinville; grandchildren, Katerina, Kristofer and Konnor Emmons, Kelsea Miller, Samantha Hughes; six great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Debbie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mervyn L. “Merv” Hughes and brother, Fred Schuman.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
Burial will be in Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Carlinville.
