Darlene F. Frakes

 

Darlene F. Frakes, 86 of Carlinville, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2025, at home in Carlinville, surrounded by loved ones.

Darlene was born on Feb. 1, 1939, to Everett and Mildred (Crays) Newby in Plainview.

Darlene attended Plainview schools.

She married Garrett “Whitey” Frakes in 1957 in Middletown.

Darlene worked at Valley Steel, Glove Factory, Skate Board Factory, Friendship Nursing Home, and at Manupetro gas stations as a cashier, in Carlinville.

Many people knew Darlene as Granny or Grandma that worked at the gas station.

Darlene was a member of Plainview Baptist Church and of the Carlinville Moose Lodge.

She liked watching game shows. She enjoyed baseball and was a very big Cubs fan.

Darlene is survived by her husband, Garrett “Whitey” Frakes of Carlinville; sons; Allen (Peggy) Frakes of Palmyra, Rick Frakes of Carlinville; grandchildren, Travis (Kristy) Frakes, Mason Frakes, Jakoda (Joseph) Zinkan, Tiffany (companion Josef Konneker) Frakes; great grandchildren, Kaden and Brock Sonneborn, Payton and Hunter Frakes; sisters, Wonda Wayman of Medora, Charlotte Ann Wallis of Modesto, Judy Wallis of Plainview, Sharon Whitworth of Carlinville; brothers, Ralph (Ruth) Newby of Prairietown, Larry Newby of Plainview; several nieces and nephews.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Everett Newby, Jr., and Terry Alvin Newby.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Plainview Baptist Church, Plainview. Funeral Services were conducted on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at Plainview Baptist Church, Plainview.

Burial followed in Shipman Cemetery, Shipman. Memorials may be made to Plainview Baptist Church or Plainview Food Pantry.
