Gloria J. Donaldson

 

Gloria J. Donaldson, 91, of Carlinville, passed away from complications from a fall at her residence on Sunday morning, Feb. 23, 2025, at High Point Residence in Carlinville.

Gloria was born March 30, 1933, in Irving Township, a daughter of Howard and Opal (Furness) Taylor.

Gloria graduated from Morrisonville High School with the class of 1951.

She then attended the school of cosmetology in Taylorville.

She married James Donaldson on April 24, 1954, in St. Maurice’s in Morrisonville. He later passed on April 24, 2016 in Girard.

Gloria was a hair dresser and operated her own beauty salon for many years.

She was an active member of the Macoupin County Fair board and was a part of Home Extension for over 54 years.

She was an  active member of the Funeral Dinner Committee and Football Breakfasts at Ss Mary & Joseph Catholic Church for many years and was also a part of a Bridge Club for over 50 years.

Gloria loved St Louis Cardinal baseball and dance and was still bouncing around in her final months.

Gloria is survived by her sons, Mark (Becky) Donaldson of Carlinville, Randy (Leanna) Donaldson of Springfield, Jim (Cheryl) Donaldson of Carlinville, Jeff (Vicki) Donaldson of Carlinville; daughter, Marsha Stringer of Monticello; 16 grandchildren, Mike Johnson, Katie Genta, Jamie Beck, Drue Donaldson, Valerie Gleason, Shane Donaldson, Heather Miller, Jordan Donaldson, Matt Donaldson, Clay Donaldson, Zach Donaldson, Ian Stringer, Nathaniel Stringer, Joshua Stringer, Luke Stringer, and Molly Stringer; 21 great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry (Dotti) Taylor of Morrisonville; several nieces and nephews and many cousins.

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, James H. “Jim” Donaldson, and parents.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Ss Mary & Joseph Catholic Church, 2010 E. 1st South St, Carlinville.

Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 am, Saturday, March 15, 2025 at Ss Mary & Joseph Catholic Church, Carlinville, with the Reverend Joe Koyickal, SAC, presiding.

Burial will follow in New Calvary Cemetery, Carlinville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Carlinville Schools “Rock the Block” or Ss Mary & Joseph Building Fund.
