Alan R. Mitchell

 

Alan R. Mitchell, 66, and his daughter, Amber Mitchell, 17, passed away due to a car crash on Saturday morning, Jan. 11, 2025 in Oak Ridge, TN.

Alan was born in Carlinville on Jan. 28, 1958, to Robert H. and Delores E. Schreiter Mitchell.

Alan attended grade school at North School in Carlinville and was a member of Charity Baptist Church before moving with his family to Iowa and then later to Chapin.

He graduated from Triopia High School in 1976 and earned a degree in accounting in 1980 from Illinois College in Jacksonville. After graduating from IC, he worked for Royal Crown Beveridge Co., in Springfield before accepting a position with Bonitz, Inc. in Charleston, SC. He retired as CFO at the age of 62 and moved his family to Oak Ridge, TN.

Missing being around people and needing something to do, he worked part-time at Calhoun’s Restaurant in Oak Ridge.

Alan married Connie Hamock Williams in 2003. He and Connie welcomed Amber into their family when she was was 18 months old.

Alan always had a smile and was the kindest person and most helpful person you could meet. He enjoyed being at his ocean condo at Isle of Palms, SC and playing golf.

He is survived by his wife, Connie, step-daughter, Laura (Ben) Hammons; grandson, Connor of Oak Ridge, TN; sisters, Janet (Jim) Kessinger of Carlinville, Joanne (Dennis) Krueger of Vandalia, Peggy Wade of Carlinville; four nieces; one nephew; one great-niece; four great-nephews; aunt Vera Schreiter of Beaumont, TX; several cousins and his closest and dearest high school friend Craig (Lynn) Schone of Chapin.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services for Alan and Amber were held on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025 in Oak Ridge, TN.

Memorials may be made out to 1st Baptist Church and sent to Connie Mitchell, 232 Park Meade Pl, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.
