Jerry “Red” Holliday

 

Jerry “Red” Holliday, 83, of Palmyra, passed away Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

He was born May 20, 1941 in Carlinville, a son of the late John and Ethel Walk Holliday.

He married Isla Faye Bridges on Sept. 12, 1967 in Decatur.

Jerry graduated Northwestern High School in Palmyra where he was very successful in basketball and track.

He was a lifelong farmer, farming east of Palmyra all his life. He served in the U.S. Army and later in the Air National Guard.

He was a member of the Palmyra First Christian Church, Palmyra American Legion, Macoupin Co. Farm Bureau.

Jerry was a sports fan and followed GNW sports.  He also enjoyed golfing at Terry Park in Palmyra, shooting trap, playing poker with friends, and playing guitar; recently with the band “Just Friends.”

He survived by his wife; children, Angela Carnes (Doug) of Virden, Sherry Clark (Larry) of Decatur, Robin Hudson (J.D.) of Carlinville; six grandchildren, Lacee who was raised in the home, Nick, Brandee, Lindsay, Tawnee, Seth; several great-grandchildren; a sister, Marilyn Turner (Bob) of Palmyra; nieces and nephews; and his dog, Andy and cat Luna.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Teresa Ralston; a sister, Wilma Huyear and an infant sister, Barbara Jean.

Services were held on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2025 at Stults-Neece Chapel in Palmyra. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Palmyra where graveside military rites were conducted by Palmyra American Legion Post.
