HS volleyball: Tiburzi surpasses 1,500 career assists, Carlinville wins over Bunker Hill and Auburn

Isabella Tiburzi surpassed 1,500 career assists and the Carlinville High School volleyball team dominated Bunker Hill to get the 2024 season started on a hight note Aug. 27.

The Cavaliers controlled the Minutemaids from start to finish and came away with a 25-6, 25-10 straight set at the Big House on West Main.

Tiburzi, one of many talented seniors on a deep roster for Kaitie Hammann, finished the evening with 17 total assists while additionally rejecting a shot at the net.

Braley Wiser, another senior, racked up five aces and posted 12 service tallies.

Hannah Gibson, also a senior, had a game-high 11 kills.

Addison Ruyle, another senior, contributed five digs.

Two days later, Carlinville picked up another big win at Auburn. Behind 14 more assists and a pair of blocks from Tiburzi, three aces and seven kills from Gibson, nine digs from senior Makenah Dugan and nine service points from senior Jordyn Loveless, the Cavaliers dismantled the Trojans, 25-11, 25-23.
Carlinville, 2-0, hosts Riverton Thurs., Sept. 5 and Carrollton Tues., Sept. 10.

Bunker Hill, 1-2 with a victory over North Greene and loss at Lincolnwood, will welcome Gillespie, Lebanon and Ramsey to town. The Maids battle the Miners Thurs., Sept. 5, followed by the Greyhounds Mon., Sept. 9 and Rams Tues., Sept. 10.
