Charles “Chuck” Sutphen

Charles “Chuck” Sutphen, 72, passed away on June 30, 2024.
He was born on Nov. 30, 1951 in Chicago, and lived with his parents, Donald and Marjorie there most of his early life.
He graduated from Concordia College High School in 1970.
Sutphen lived in and around Carlinville most of his adult life. He owned and operated Chuck’s Gasoline Alley, then managed the Radio Shack dealership at Sullivan Drugs for nine years.
In late summer 1988, Chuck was invited to work at Blackburn College, one month before fall semester began, as a programmer/analyst and manage the Computer Center, and began a rewarding career there before retiring in 2020. While working there, Chuck earned a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science in 1995.
Chuck loved to play guitar and make music with his friends.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, his step daughters, Mary Lynne Thompson of Viroqua, WI, Julie Ann Love (Brian Miller) of Springfield; nephews, Steven of Cypress, (spouse Hercilia, their sons and daughters, George of Northbrook, his wife Elly, and their sons and daughters.
There were no services.
Memorials are requested to go to Blackburn College.
