Mary Helen Hammann

Mary Helen Hammann, 98 of Waggoner, passed away peacefully at Carlinville Area Hospital in Carlinville, on Friday May 17, 2024.
She was born on March 2, 1926, in Alton, a daughter of Louis Christian and Helen Amilia (Tieman) Reiher.
She married Charles Elmer Hammann on April 6, 1947 in Carlinville. He preceded her in death on Oct. 13, 2005.
Mary was a graduate of Carlinville High School, class of 1943.
Mary was a homemaker, milked cows and farmed with her husband until their retirement. They spent many years traveling to Texas and visiting with friends and family.
She was a life-long member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Carlinville.
She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, enjoyed watching wild-life in her backyard, and playing cards with her kids and grandkids. She was initiated into the Carlinville Chapter 802 of Eastern Star in 1950, serving as Worthy Matron from 1957-1958, and she was an active member within the organization having dual membership with the Girard Chapter, who merged with the Palmyra Chapter 453.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Judith A. (John) Thoron of Raymond; son, Charles R. (Peggy) Hammann of Waggoner; daughter, Tina Kay (late Roy Folker) Prose of Pawnee; son, Albert Louis (Sheila) Hammann of Carlinville; grandsons, Chris Thoron of Edwardsville, Jason Thoron of Chatham, Andrew (Ashley) Thoron of Tifton, GA, Greg (Kristy) Hammann of Atwater, Jeff (Laura) Hammann of Atwater, Clayton (Shayna) Prose of Girard, Blake (Carissa) Hammann of Carlinville, Bryce (Rachel) Hammann of Carlinville, Brandon (Rebecca) Hammann of Carlinville; 24 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers Harold Henry Reiher and Louis Christian Reiher.
Eastern Star services and visitation were held on Monday, May 20, 2024, at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinville.
Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at St. Paul United Church of Christ.
Burial to follow at Hammann Cemetery.
