Carlinville High School athletes Ronald LaPlante and Adie Cordani both earned a spot in the Illinois High School Association sectionals as qualifying individuals for their respective sport over the past weekend.
Cordani and LaPlante continued building their legacies as captains of their teams, setting a high-quality standard for their upcoming senior seasons next winter.
Cordani competed at the girls’ bowling regionals at Spare Time Lanes in Decatur, scoring a 906 in a six-game series and earning the ninth place spot overall amongst individuals that weren’t members of advancing teams. Cordani will join Southwestern’s Jaden Basnett, who ranked eighth with 916 points for the Piasa Birds, at Town & Country Lanes in Joliet this Saturday, Feb. 10.
LaPlante took third place in his weight class at Auburn. He opened the tournament by pinning Auburn’s Noah Duncan in 1:53. After suffering a tough 5-4 loss to Vandalia’s Cole Yarbrough in a match that went the distance (three two-minute rounds), LaPlante kept his season alive with a 12-2 win over Travon Street of Mt. Zion. He closed the day 3-1 after outlasting Litchfield’s Isaiah Johnson via a 7-4 decision. LaPlante wrestles at the Vandalia sectional Fri., Feb. 9 and Sat., Feb. 10.
