Carlinville Council approves changes to Nuisance Remedy ordinance

Enquirer~Democrat Reporter

The Carlinville Council meeting was short and sweet on Feb. 5, with only a few items on the agenda.

Changes to the Nuisance Remedies ordinance were approved. The ordinance added lines saying, “The relief sought by the City may include an Order from the Circuit Court of Macoupin County, in a case in which the City has sought a fine for violation of this Chapter, compelling the owner an/or occupant of the property to abate the nuisance within 28 days of the entry of the Order. If the nuisance is not abated within 28 days, the Court may enter an Order allowing the City, or its duly authorized contractor, to enter upon the property and abate the nuisance The costs incurred by the City shall be charged to the owner and/or occupant, and subject to the lien and foreclosure remedies set forth in this chapter.”

These changes were added to Sections 25-1-8, 25-2-9 and 25-3-8.

The final topic of discussion was an ordinance amending the Macoupin County Enterprise Zone. In 2019 the City of Carlinville, along with Gillespie, Bunker Hill, Staunton and Royal Lakes, passed an ordinance to establish an enterprise zone in Macoupin County. The amended ordinance expands the enterprise zone in Staunton, but needs all of the members to sign off before the area can be added. The Carlinville council approved the ordinance amending the enterprise zone.

The council approved the Carlinville Queen Pageant request to sell Krispy Kreme doughnuts on the Carlinville Square Feb. 24.

The use of the Square was also approved for Brave Days April 26 and 27 and for October 11 and 12.
