Eighth grade boys’ basketball postseason begins Jan. 27

The Carlinville Middle School eighth grade basketball team finished the regular season 12-6 and will face Gillespie as a third seed in the IESA Class 8-3A Pana regional Jan. 27. The eighth grade boys’ basketball postseason is set to tip off Sat., Jan. 27.

Girard North Mac has been assigned a top seed in the Illinois Elementary School Association 8-3A Pana regional and will face either No. 4 Litchfield or No. 5 Hillsboro at 5 p.m. Wed., Jan. 31.

The finale of the Jan. 27 Pana quaterfinal tripleheader features a pair of county rivals. No. 3 Carlinville and No. 6 Gillespie will square off at noon. The winner advances to play either No. 2 Auburn or No. 7 Pana Jan. 31 at 6:30 p.m.

No. 6 Southwestern meets No. 3 Greenville at East St. Louis with an opportunity to face No. 2 Staunton hanging in the balance. That quarterfinal match has an 11:15 a.m. tip time. Staunton takes the floor at 5:15 p.m. Tues., Jan. 30.

Bunker Hill and Mt. Olive could face each other in the second round of the 8-1A Carrollton St. John regional. However, both teams would have to pull an upset, particularly Bunker Hill. The Minutemen are the bottom seed and will battle No. 1 Kinderhook Western at 10 a.m. Jan. 27. Mt. Olive, a fifth seed, plays immediately afterward at 11:30 a.m. against No. 4 Jerseyville St. Francis.
