Three county bowlers advance to IHSA sectionals

On Jan. 13, three Macoupin County bowlers advanced to sectionals by ranking amongst individual qualifiers at the Illinois High School Association Alton regional.

Each competitor bowled a series of six games and were scored based on overall tally.

Jack Rives finished 10th overall and was the third highest individual advancer, scoring 1204 points for Carlinville. Aaron Cordani joined his teammate on the sectional roster in the ninth spot. Cordani logged the 17th best score with 1171 points.

Other Carlinville regional participants included Lucas Boyett (1026) and Houston Turley (906).

Joining Rives and Cordani at sectionals will be Southwestern’s Mason Barrett, who scored 1154 points and earned the final individual qualification.

Southwestern ranked 11th amongest 12 schools behind Jerseyville, Alton, Civic Memorial, Highland, Marquette, Edwardsville, Wood River, Routt Catholic, Roxana and Metro-East Lutheran. The Piasa Birds defeated Granite City. Carlinville didn’t field enough bowlers for a team score.

Rives, Cordani and Barrett will travel to Carterville’s SI Bowl for sectionals Sat., Jan. 20.
