James D. Snelson

 

James “Jim” D. Snelson, Sr., 77, of Raymond, formerly of Marrero, LA,  passed away Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2023, at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield.

James was born Nov. 21, 1946, in Hardin, a son of Willard and Marie Beck Snelson.

Jim was in the Army 101st Airborne Division and served in Vietnam, receiving several awards, including a Purple Heart.

He married Norma Garrison, on Dec. 1, 1969 in Macomb, IL.

Jim was a self employed trucker for over 35 years.

He enjoyed camping with Norma and sitting around the campfire. They enjoyed traveling to Branson, MO.

James is survived by his spouse, Norma Jean Snelson of Raymond, daughter, Betty (Bobby) Hebert of Girard, daughter, Brenda Whitehead of Farmersville, daughter, Becky Weaver of AL, son, James D. Snelson, Jr. of Springfield, daughter, Barbara Hernandez; sister, Bonnie (John) Ribardi of LA; brother, Jake (Mary) Snelson of LaHarp; sister-in-law, Ruth Snelson of Morgan City, LA;  seven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Marie Snelson and brother, William Snelson.

Services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2023, at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinville, with Pastor Ron Butler presiding.

Burial followed in Rural Cemetery, Carlinville.
