John Thomas Pocklington

 

John Thomas Pocklington Sr., 75, of Carlinville, passed away Thursday, Oct. 26, 2023, at Carlinville Area Hospital.

John was born May 5, 1948, in Carlinville, a son of James Edward Thomas and Allie Marie Nance Pocklington.

He married Murel Warren August 24, 1968, in  Carlinville.

John was a member of the US Marine Corps and served in Vietnam. He was awarded a Purple Heart. John was a laborer and retired from Alladin Steel, Carlinville in 2013.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a backyard mechanic and  loved woodworking.

John is survived by his wife, Murel Pocklington of Carlinville; sons, John (LaShonda Vancil) Pocklington, Jr. of Carlinville, James (Tammy) Pocklington of Atwater; grandson, Brandon Pocklington; granddaughter, Lutisha Pocklington; great-grandchildren, Haylee, Jason, and Zaylah.

John was preceded in death by his son, Jason Pocklington; granddaughter, Michelle Baker; father, James Edward Thomas Pocklington; mother, Allie Marie Pocklington; siblings, Geraldine, James and Charles.
