Helen Elaine Corbin

Helen Elaine (Hayes) Corbin, 59, of Gillespie, passed away surrounded by her loved ones at 2 a.m. on July 20, 2023 after a courageous multi-year battle with breast cancer.

Helen was born on March 24, 1964 to Richard Hayes and Helen (Noel) Hayes at their home in Wilsonville.

After graduating from Gillespie High School in 1982, she held various positions in healthcare, factories, and retail; but she was adamant that her favorite job title over the years was mom.

Helen met her future husband Kim Corbin, whose grandmother, Gladys (Christie) Scgloski, was Helen’s next door neighbor. Helen spent many years around the Corbin family and in 1991 she married Kim and officially became a Corbin herself.

Kim and Helen went on to have two children, Cameron Corbin and Ashley Corbin.  Helen was proud to add Emily (Brown) Corbin, Betty Calbreath, Tyler (Ross) Peterson, and Chelsea Herbert to the list of children that she called her own.  Helen was passionate about hiking, traveling, and experiencing the Earth’s natural beauty and when she wasn’t filling the Corbin home with warmth and laughter, she could be found “taking the scenic route” and traveling the country chasing waterfalls.

She survived by her furry grandchildren, Molly and Oreo; children, Cameron Corbin (Emily) of Gillespie, Ashley Corbin of Saint Louis, MO; cousin, Thomas Noel (Julie) of Hardin; half brother Lloyd Hoover (Kathleen) of Beaverville; in-laws – Frank Corbin, Lisa (Gibson) Corbin, and William “Bill” Keenan, her husband Kim Corbin of Gillespie.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Hayes and Helen (Noel) Hayes; cousin, Edward Noel; in-laws, Dorothy (Scgloski) Corbin, George Voyles, Jeff Corbin, and Trishia (Corbin) Keenan; her pets, Charlie, Shorty, Peanut and Mason.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 from 5 to 7 p.m. with a service to begin at 7 p.m. at Kravanya Funeral Home in Gillespie.

A private family burial will be held at the Gillespie Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Kravanya Funeral Home to help cover funeral expenses.
