Glen O. “Buster” Suttles
Glen O. “Buster” Suttles, 72 of Chesterfield, passed away on Wednesday July 5, 2023 in his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born on Dec. 1, 1950 in Woodriver, to Clara (Woods) and Clarence Suttles.
Glen graduated high school from Northwestern in 1968. He then joined the Army and served in Vietnam in 1970-1971. He married Nina K. Hill on June 8, 1973 in Carlinville.
Buster worked at Monterey Coal Mine for 23 years, and then retired from IDOT after eight years as a bridge mechanic.
Glen was chosen to go on the Lincoln Land Honor Flight out of Springfield to Washington DC in 2014 with his daughter Kari as his guardian.
He enjoyed spending winters in Florida with his favorite companion Molly (his dog). Buster was active in his church the Chesterfield Bible Church where he served as a deacon. He started teaching youth group bible studies until his health took him from that. He loved the Lord and celebrated with Christian Rock music.
Buster was an avid hunter. He was able to go with his son on their dream Caribou hunt in Canada in 2008. He also was an instructor for Clay Busters Trap Team.
Glen is survived by his wife Nina Suttles; son, Corey (Amanda) Suttles of Chesterfield; daughter, Kari (Nate) Dwyer of Carlinville; grandchildren, Ethan, Elijah, Emma and Emery Suttles and Vance Dwyer; sister, Edith (Bill) Smith of Gillespie; many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Lincoln Land Honor Flight or Hagaman Historial Society.
Visitation was held at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Carlinville, Monday July 10, with funeral services on Tuesday, July 11. Burial will be at Keller Cemetery in rural Chesterfield.
