Maurita Campbell

 

Maurita Campbell, 71, of Carlinville passed away May 18, 2023 at OSF Transitional Care Hospital in Peoria, after a long illness.

She was born on July 2, 1951, in New Waterford, Nova Scotia, she was the youngest child of the late Gervase and Mary (McCormack) Campbell.

Maurita worked for many years as a housekeeper at the Lake Williamson Christian Center.  Before that, she also worked as a door greeter at the old Carlinville Wal-Mart and a housekeeper at the old Carlinville Area Hospital.

She was an avid reader and enjoyed reading her Bible as well as murder-mystery novels. She also loved listening to music of the 50s and 60s.  She was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Boston Red Soxs. She also enjoyed watching WWE wrestling with her son.

Surviving are son, Ralph Sharp, Carlinville; daughter, Mary Ann (Brandon) Coventry, Shelbyville; granddaughter, Marni Coventry, Shelbyville; sister Barbara Brock, Nashua, NH; brother, Ralph (Lee) Campbell, New Victoria, Nova Scotia; many nieces and nephews.

Maurita was predeceased by brothers, Robert “Bobby” Campbell, Collie Campbell, Adrian “Adie” Campbell, Ralph Campbell in infancy; sisters, Lois Campbell and Irene Bort.

A private memorial service for family and friends was held at her church, Emmanuel Baptist Church in Carlinville.
