Loretta (Laurie) Maddox

 

Loretta (Laurie) Ann (McDonald) Maddox, of Springfield and Carlinville, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2023, at her home with her loving husband by her side.

Laurie was the daughter of Walter Barrett and Evelyn Quigley McDonald, was born in Chicago, on July 12, 1947.

She grew up in Chicago before moving to Springfield in 1959.

Laurie graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1965.

She met her husband, Cress, while in high school. They married on Jan. 21, 1967, in Springfield, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.

Laurie started her own business, Capitol Services, in 1985. In 1990, Laurie and Cress bought Maintenance Supply Corporation. They still own and operate Maintenance Supply Corporation and MASCO Packaging and Industrial Supply, where they worked together for over 36 years. Laurie also worked at Springfield Public School District 186.

Laurie volunteered at the Springfield YMCA, where she was the first female “Big Boss” selected to run the membership campaign. She also volunteered at King’s Daughters Organization, Springfield Art Association, Junior League of Springfield, PEO, and was a member at Westminster Presbyterian Church and Illini Country Club.

She is survived by her husband, Cress; daughters, Jennifer Wagner, Amanda Kurmann, Sarah Graham, Jessica Hemenway (John); son, Cress Maddox (Felicia); grandchildren, Madeline, Cressa, Sarah, Barrett, Ella, Clayton, William, Carter, Charlie, Jack, Katherine, Owen, Adaline, Cress, Dominik, and Breccan; sister, Corrine McDonald; brothers, John McDonald, Tim McDonald, Dan McDonald and Tom McDonald.

Laurie was preceded in death by her parents; her mother-in-law, Arlowyne Maddox Pursell and father-in-law, Cress (Bud) Maddox.

She and Cress spent much of their free time at their treasured farm, “The Land.” Her favorite pastime was watching her kids and grandchildren play their many sports. She loved the outdoors and walking and running in Washington Park. In her younger days, she completed three Chicago marathons.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2023, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield.

Funeral Ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 12, 2023, at Butler Funeral Home in Springfield with Rev. Jeff Grant officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Springfield School Public District #186 Foundation or Blackburn College in Carlinville.
