Kenneth E. Whitley
Kenneth E. “Kenny” Whitley, 80, of Girard, passed away Monday morning, May 1, 2023 at his residence in Standard City.
Kenneth was born on Oct. 31, 1942 to William and Dorothy (Steward) Whitley in Detroit, MI.
After graduating from Carlinville High School in 1960, Kenny enlisted in the Navy and served four years of active duty before he transferred into the Reserves. He retired from the Litchfield National Guard.
Kenny was a miner for Monterey Coal Mine in Carlinville for several years and then worked as an electrician for Freeman Crown lll mine in Farmersville, until he retired. He was a member of UMWA.
Kenny also drove a tractor-trailer, hauling numerous products wherever they needed to be delivered. He had to always be busy, so he loved to mow his grass and work in his shop, fabricating projects that he felt would be of benefit to himself or others.
Kenneth is survived by his daughter, DiLynn (Robert) Stewart-Douglas of Standard City; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, David (Sue) Whitley of Nilwood; several nieces and nephews.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, William Edward and Dorothy Mae Whitley; wife, Deloros Marie Whitley; son-in-law, Brett Stewart; sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Pete White.
Visitation will be held Saturday, May 13, 2023, from 9 to 10 a.m. at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinville.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 10:00 am at the Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, Carlinville, with Rev. Cliff Woodman, officiating.
Memorials are suggested to the Ronald McDonald House.
